Why choose Lynx® for your aircraft
Operational efficiency is enhanced through Lynx’s delivery of real-time traffic and weather data, allowing pilots to make more informed routing decisions. With intuitive swipe functionality, pilots can easily access FAA data and weather overlays on a moving map. This capability improves situational awareness, reduces unnecessary deviations, and supports optimized flight paths - enabling pilots to save fuel, avoid delays, and streamline in-flight decision-making.
In late 2023, the FAA adopted a direct final rule expanding the list of acceptable Technical Standard Orders (TSOs) under ADS-B Out regulations to include TSO-C166c (1090ES) and TSO-C154d (UAT). This change supports broader adoption of modern avionics by aligning regulatory compliance with current system capabilities. Additionally, the 2023 TSO expansion rule highlights that aircraft equipped with these updated TSOs enable “new wake turbulence applications” and improved spacing and flow operations. This points to a future where air traffic management strategies may increasingly rely on ADS-B In data for traffic awareness, spacing, and interval management.
Designed for reliable performance and reduced pilot workload, Lynx’s new-generation features make both compliance and cockpit operations more efficient and user-friendly.
What this means for you
- Future-proof compliance: Meets FAA ADS-B mandates, helping operators stay compliant without repeated upgrades. Ensures long-term regulatory alignment, reducing risk of costly retrofits or operational restrictions as rules evolve.
- Consolidation: Multiple Functions fit into a single unit, lowering installation and maintenance costs compared to legacy systems. Reduces equipment footprint and associated labor, saving on total lifecycle costs.
- Seamless installation: Designed for drop-in replacement of existing transponders, minimizing rewiring and simplifying upgrade. Speeds up installation, avoids major modifications, and helps keep aircraft downtime to a minimum.
- Enhanced situational awareness: Provides real-time traffic, weather, and terrain data in the cockpit, enabling more efficient decision-making in flight. Improves route planning and in-flight adjustments, contributing to fuel savings and schedule reliability.

Key capabilities
1. Dual-band ADS-B In and Out capability
The Lynx® ADS-B system supports both 978 MHz (UAT) and 1090 MHz (Mode S) frequencies, giving it full dual-band ADS-B In and Out capability. By supporting both frequencies, Lynx® ensures any aircraft is interoperable across all classes of busy airports and NextGen airspaces.
ADS-B Out allows the aircraft to broadcast its position, velocity, and other data to air traffic control and nearby aircraft, enhancing visibility and collision avoidance.
ADS-B In enables the pilot to receive live traffic and weather data from ground stations and other aircraft.
This dual-band functionality offers a more comprehensive traffic picture, improves pilot situational awareness, and reduces dependency on ATC services for basic surveillance data, which in turn supports safer, more efficient flight operations across a wide range of missions.
2. Integrated traffic and weather display
A standout feature of the Lynx® system is its integrated touchscreen display that consolidates real-time traffic and weather information in a single, easy-to-use interface. The display presents nearby aircraft, complete with relative altitude and direction, detailed weather graphics such as NEXRAD radar imagery, METARs, TAFs, winds aloft, and more.
Having this level of data directly accessible in the cockpit - without requiring a tablet, smartphone, or additional app - simplifies the pilot's workflow and reduces head-down time. This capability is especially valuable during cross-country flights, in busy terminal areas, or in rapidly changing weather conditions where quick decisions are essential.
It enables strategic decision-making, such as route deviation for weather avoidance or adjusting altitude for smoother air. The display is sunlight-readable and intuitive, designed for easy interpretation even under demanding conditions.

3. Mode S transponder with Extended Squitter (ES)
The Lynx® system includes a fully certified Mode S transponder with Extended Squitter (ES), critical for ADS-B Out compliance on the 1090 MHz frequency used at higher altitudes and for international operations. Mode S ES transmits aircraft identity, position, velocity, and vertical data to ATC and nearby aircraft, enabling more accurate tracking, efficient traffic management, and support for collision avoidance systems (ACAS/TCAS).
By integrating Mode S ES into a single unit, Lynx simplifies installation, reduces wiring and weight, and ensures global compatibility. This built-in functionality future-proofs the aircraft against evolving surveillance mandates while eliminating the need for separate transponder and ADS-B components.
4. Durability/reliability feature
Built to operate across a broad temperature range: −20 °C to +55 °C (approximately −4 °F to +131 °F) and certified to function up to 55,000 ft. (about 16,800 meters). A system with wide environmental tolerances (temp, altitude, vibration) means fewer failure modes in harsh flight conditions or remote operations. This reduces downtime and maintenance costs.
Less than 3 pounds, smaller, lighter units like Lynx tend to have fewer mechanical issues due to less strain from vibration/weight. Unlimited service life reduces pressure for replacement just due to aging; the cost‑of‑ownership is lower over many years. There is no special scheduled maintenance for the Lynx beyond what regulation requires for transponders (e.g., inspection and testing every 24 months).
