Product overview

The T³CAS® is an integrated communication and surveillance system from ACSS (an Acron Aviation and Thales joint venture) that combines multiple, proven products into a single small, lightweight system for advanced safety and ADS-B In and Out functionality. The ultra-flexible T³CAS is a single LRU that can host any combination of these functions:

  • Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
  • Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS)
  • Mode S Transponder with ADS-B In/Out Capability
  • ADS-B In applications

T³CAS builds on proven ACSS TCAS II products that provide situational awareness and collision avoidance protection to more than 15,000 aircraft worldwide.

Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS)

Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS) is a joint venture between Acron Aviation and Thales. ACSS designs and manufactures products for all aircraft and helicopter segments, and supports products for air transport and regional airlines, business aviation, and helicopter, general aviation, manned and unmanned military aircraft operators. ACSS produces avionics systems that increase safety, situational awareness, and efficiency for commercial and military flight operators.

Key features

Terrain awareness warning systems (TAWS)

This Class A TAWS system is a safety enhancer, appropriate for any air transport, regional, business or military aircraft that provides pilots and crews with the appropriate amount of time needed to clear terrain with a greater margin to maneuver and avoid a Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) incident. The Terrain Advisory Line is a patented feature that indicates an impending alert, should the aircraft continue on its flight path.

Mode S transponders (ADS-B Out)

Mode S transponders are certified to DO-260B standards, and meet the ADS-B Out mandates for impending airspace initiatives, including the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NextGen and Europe’s SESAR. DO-260B enables transmission of ADS-B information about an aircraft’s position, speed and intent. Mode S transponders incorporate FAA-specified diversity, allowing simultaneous operation with both top and bottom transponder antennas, optimizing signal strength and reducing multi-path interference.

Greater pilot efficiency

T³CAS can host SafeRoute+ or Airbus’ ATSAW ADS-B In Applications that increase safety, efficiency and throughput for flight operators. SafeRoute+ is a simple software upgrade and consists of five selectable applications that allow airlines to install ADS-B In solutions that align best with their operations:

  • Enhanced airborne traffic situational awareness
  • CDTI-assisted visual separation (CAVS)
  • Interval management spacing (IM-S)
  • In-trail procedures (ITP)

While ATSAW applications available through Airbus include:

  • Enhanced airborne traffic situational awareness
  • Visual separation on approach (VSA)
  • In-trail procedures (ITP)
  • These functions offer fuel savings that result from flying optimized, more predictable routes with consistent spacing and fewer vectors
